About Pat Garvey
Pat has worked worldwide as a professional drummer since 1993. Coming from a classical background, starting his musical journey on the cello at the age of four. He was lucky enough to study with some of the great teachers and players of the instrument including Hilary Jones, Grace Dick, Santiago Carvalho, and Elizabeth MacDonald, gaining experience of what makes not only a great musician, but what also makes a great teacher from an early age. He found the drums when he was 10, and at the age of 12 commenced his drums studies with Roy Sneddon who was at the time Principle Percussionist for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He had opportunities to begin turning professional at the age of 17 and since then has been fortunate enough to play all over the world, working with bands, artists, labels, producers, managers & all in between, as well as study with two other great teachers and highly respected players: Steve Kellner, and later on the great Bob Armstrong, who is widely regarded as having been one of the worlds top drum teachers. More information is available here.
Over the last 10 years Pat has become much more involved in education, and alongside his professional playing career he has been evolving his own private teaching, mentoring and career guidance practice into what it has become today, Master Study Studios. From his role as Head of Drums/Principle Lecturer at BIMM, to developing and managing hands-on educational projects all over the UK, delivering masterclasses for Universities, shops, sponsors and different projects all over the world, writing degree course notes that are used internationally, consulting on course design, online learning methods, having his own tuitional column in iDrum Magazine for 3 years and then in the iconic Rhythm Magazine for nearly four years, as well as honours such as being invited onto the international VIC FIRTH Education Artist Roster and the SONOR international artist roster over the past decade.
Pat is firmly committed to sharing the art of drumming and music including everything that goes with that in 2020, helping students develop their skill sets, find their footing in an ever-changing business, and providing a structured, constructive, safe, limitless learning environment. Pat has worked just as hard on his teaching as his playing over the last decade, achieving a PGCert in Learning and Teaching with distinction in 2013, and is currently studying for his Masters Degree in Learning and Teaching.
Pat is proud to have some of his of his past and present students playing with some of the top bands and artists in the world.
